Eastern Mountain Sports is the official outfitter of the Mount Washington Observatory, providing insulation and outerwear for Observatory staff to handle the "Worst Weather in the World" found on the summit of the Northeast's highest peak. Now the company has even provided the resident summit feline, Marty, with his own insulated "jack-cat."
According to this EMS blog post, a member of the EMS product design team, Jennifer O'Connor, spent a weekend converting a PrimaLoft-insulated EMS Mercury Jacket into a one-of-a-kind cat jacket customized to Marty's specific measurements. It even includes an interior pocket. Check out more pictures of the cat suit on the EMS Facebook page.
I wonder what Marty will keep in his pocket... a secret stash of catnip... an emergency parachute in case he's blasted off the summit by high winds... mouse tails for flossing his teeth...
As an official partner of the Observatory, EMS donates a portion of any online sales that originate from the Observatory web site, so start your next purchase here.
EMS became the official sponsor earlier this year (learn more about the partnership here), taking over from L.L. Bean, which had outfitted the Observatory for many years. There is no word on whether Marty influenced the decision.
